Down in the Valley  |  The Head & The Heart

I’ve had a busy few days, and one of the highlights of the last week (of the last year, really) was seeing The Head & The Heart play a full show on Wednesday. 

There is something special about these musicians. They’re in it with their hearts. I honestly haven’t heard anything like it since maybe I saw Glen Hansard sing his heart out at me in Boston. Everyone in this band is like that, but the only girl in the band, Charity Rose Thielen, is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I was trying to describe her to Charlie in an email, and here’s what I wrote: 

“The girl in the band has that crazy energy, that thing where it seems like the sound coming out of her is coming from some other world. Like maybe the universe figured out how to make a noise and it comes out of her. She’s my new favorite lady human.” 

Marissa went with me and the next day while she was listening to the album, she said it was such a bummer to come home and listen to them through crappy computer speakers. “It’s like they were trapped in my computer.” Too true. Go see them live if you get a chance.
