Talk about crazy ideas: a Dutch startup called Mars One is planning a mission to colonize Mars by 2023. And they want to make the whole process a kind of reality television show. That sounds a little nuts, but if I’m honest, I’d totally watch that.  That date seems way too close for it to be possible, but some part of me wants to believe it could happen. I often try to remind myself that just 15 years ago, a lot of the things I currently use every day seemed sort of implausible. Maybe not as big a stretch as going to Mars, but someone has to dream big and get the ball rolling.  With all of the advancements in private spaceflight recently, I’d like to hope that at the very least, the Mars One folks will inspire others to make a manned mission to Mars a reality.
