Sometimes you startle a bird and you get a great shot out of it.

We went up to Port Townsend to see my awesome aunts and uncles and cousins and cousinkids (what are those called?) and I had a great time checking out the Marine Science Center with the fam. This is the beach across the street. The Pacific Northwest is certainly moody in the winter, but I love it.

I had a very London weekend. I had to skip out on a trip to Paris with friends because I was covering a cool sciencey art gallery show (no worries, I pitched the story and was totally psyched to review the exhibition). Instead of Paris, I treated myself to a really Londony day or two. I hit the Tate Modern for some lovely art. I took a boat ride on the Thames, which is where these pics are from. I saw Mozart’s Requiem played by candlelight at St. Martin-of-the-Fields church. The symphony was incredible and the atmosphere eerie and cool. It was a good weekend. A really good one.

It can also make it look like I live in one of those hand-colored black and white pictures. This is the view out my window. I live right next to an ancient church with three red phone booths right outside my front door. Quite the picture-perfect London experience.

The PEN camera can make it look like I live in a dingy flat in the 70s.

Since I live in a teeny tiny little apartment that has no drawers anywhere, I have to keep my shoes all lined up on the floor next to the wall. It’s actually kind of nice, having them out to see while I get dressed. Plus, they’re pretty and now I get to enjoy that even when I’m not wearing them.

Making good on my New Year’s resolution, I’ve been learning to read tarot cards all year. I got a nice traditional pack here in London and I read mine this weekend. Looks like I’m in for a big change, a lot of hard work, and something attempting to block my path to success. So, you know, just the typical life.
